Upon graduating from Great Neck North High School,Raphael studied Israeli Literature at Tel Aviv University continuing on to Columbia University where he entered into the Architecture program. There he met his design professor at Columbia; Robert A. M. Stern. After Architecture school, in his own words: 'Life got in the way' and he found himself running his Family's Fashion and Textile Exporting business for the next 20 years. The family business: Abert Trading Inc. became the exclusive distributor for brands such as The Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy and Kipling luggage in Latin America. In 2011 he moved to his summer home in Southampton full time, to start a new career in the Luxury Real Estate Industry. Ironically, the first house that he sold in the Hamptons was in fact a home designed by his once professor: Robert A.M. Stern.
Raphael is a well-rounded person who pursues interests in writing, music, photography and stone sculpture. An avid traveler, on his most recent trek in Nepal, he successfully reached base camp of Mt. Everest. His latest documentary film The Man Who Saved the World, is now enjoying exposure at numerous international film festivals across the world and has appearance of well-respected actors Matt Damon, Robert DeNiro and Kevin Costner. Raphael is also a Samba Drummer and performs with Boom Samba School, often having led the Hamptons Monday Night Drum Circle in Sagaponack for many years.
